Who I Am

book publisher, book producer, graphic designer, woodworker, project manager, interior designer, entrepreneur, volunteer

That’s the short list of titles I wear.

Aloha,

My name is Tiffany DeEtte Shafto. I have a passion for creating connections for artists and feel a strong drive to showcase Hawaii as the arts destination it truly is. I’ve see and experienced many artists’ studios, and I’ve come away with a changed perspective, one that’s given me a much deeper appreciation for the finished works of art and the artists who create them.

Seeing the needs of the arts community in Hawaii, I established Contemporary Publications in 2009 as a publishing company dedicated to promoting creativity and sharing the stories of artists. Over the last few years, my scope has grown to include marketing and promotion materials for local arts organizations, a growing number of web sites, and additional book production.

It’s my belief that arts organizations should operate more like marketing organizations, particularly during these economic times. I believe everyone should be able to make a living doing what they love.

I’m an avid volunteer. I am currently President of the Hawaii Wood Guild and Director of the national Craft Organization Development Association. I am also past president of Hawaii Craftsmen. While titles don’t mean much to me, these organizations have inspired me to work to make a positive difference for their members. Hopefully, it shows.

As I stated in my first book, Contemporary Hawaii Woodworkers, I hope that as you read these pages, you’ll find your own inspiration–to collect art, to create art, to attend exhibitions, and to share these stories with others….Finally, I hope that when you are given a big, positive idea, you’ll find a way to make it a reality.”

Now I’m onto my next big, positive idea—creating a visual and culinary arts education destination in Hawaii. I’ll keep you posted!

What I Do

creative problem solving, book production and publishing, graphic design, marketing & PR campaigns, & web sites

Books
In 2009, I co-authored, produced and published the award winning coffee table book, Contemporary Hawai‘i Woodworkers; the Wood, the Art, the Aloha. That was a major learning experience. The first edition sold out in 2011. That same year, I also produced Words at Work by award-winning author, Lynda McDaniel (the amazing author and journalist who agreed to co-author Contemporary Hawai‘i Woodworkers).

Graphics
I bring a unique perspective to projects through my diverse background. It’s been a winding road from a BA in Interior Design to graphics and book production. I’ve produced posters, postcards, sponsorship packages, programs, prospectuses, and several ads for local arts organizations.

Marketing
Press releases, web sites, newsletters, and social media pages … I’ve done it all. Do you need marketing materials for an upcoming event? A new look for your web site? (I’m the first to admit I use spiffy looking web templates and customize them for my clients.) Let’s talk and see how I can help you achieve an accurate reflection of you and your work on the web.

Consulting
Do you need a new perspective on your organization or your work? Wondering how you can be more effective? Let’s talk. I’m full of ideas and can give you a view through a different set of eyes.

Contemporary Hawaii Woodworkers

Collectors Edition

Three hundred Collectors Edition copies of Contemporary Hawai‘i Woodworkers; the Wood, the Art, the Aloha are autographed by 35 of the featured woodworkers and both authors. Each is numbered and comes in a slip case that matches the hard cover of the book (which looks like beautiful curly koa wood). To make that happen, we lovingly shipped these special books to four locations on three islands, met with the artists in the book, collected their autographs on all 300 books, and created treasured memories. With our first edition sold out, these are all that remain.
